Hello Yellow Army!
What a day it was, and it completely belonged to one and only, our power hitter Urvil Patel! If you missed the start of Round 4, here is our day 1 report, where I was crossing my fingers for one big innings, and boy, did he deliver, far beyond my expectation!
Well, there was not much for the others on day 2 of Round 4 of the Ranji Trophy 2026-27, but does it really matter? His double ton completely overshadowed everything else and put a smile and hope on the face of every CSK fan. But still, let's go through some of them who went into action.

Urvil Patel Ranji Trophy Round 4 Day 2: Unbeaten 210 vs Kerala
Is this real?! I asked for a century and he gave me a double! After his unbeaten 63 on day 1, Urvil carried on and remained unbeaten on 210 off 227 balls with 17 fours and 6 sixes, as Gujarat declared on 534/9.
This is his highest ever Ranji Trophy score and his maiden double century in first-class cricket, and what a progression from his 85 in Round 1 and 96 in Round 3! Remember how I was saying we were waiting for that big innings? Well, Urvil, he did not just convert it, he made it a massive one, for himself, for his team and for all of us CSK fans as well. Kerala ended day 2 on 74/3 in 23 overs, still trailing by 460 runs.
And just look at his season so far! In only 5 innings this season, Urvil has already scored 427 runs, which is more than he scored in each of the last two full seasons: 414 runs in 11 innings in 2025-26 and 395 runs in 11 innings in 2024-25.
The progression is not only in the runs, but in his average as well, which has shot up to 106.75, compared to 41.4 last season and 35.9 the season before. And just look at that strike rate of 103.14, compared to 88 and 69 in the last two seasons! It looks like he is playing white ball cricket in the Ranji Trophy.
That is exactly the long-innings Urvil that I was asking for in our Ranji preview, and he has done it with the same fearless approach that made him hit the fastest fifty in CSK history.
Almost all of us doubted him when he failed while playing under Ruturaj Gaikwad for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy months ago, including me, as I also wondered whether he was really suitable for red ball cricket. But I guess now no one will doubt his ability to play red ball cricket as well, and with the same pace and aggression.
Gurjapneet Singh Ranji Trophy Round 4 Day 2: 1/16 vs Chandigarh
Gurjapneet did not get to bat, because Tamil Nadu declared on a mammoth 571/7. But with the ball he gave a tight spell of 7 overs for just 16 runs and 1 wicket, and it was an early breakthrough that set the tone.
I was excited to see him bowl at the Sector 16 Stadium, and he made it count on a pitch that has not been helpful for bowlers. Chandigarh ended day 2 on 49/3 in 20 overs, trailing by 522 runs, so Tamil Nadu are in complete command.
Kartik Sharma Ranji Trophy Round 4 Day 2: Unbeaten 9 vs Himachal Pradesh
After the first innings fell apart for just 78, Rajasthan fought back superbly in the second innings, and Kartik is unbeaten on 9 at stumps. The base was set by a 200-plus run partnership between Lomror (97) and Rajbar (140), who commanded the first two sessions before both got out in the last session.
Rajasthan finished on 297/4 in 87 overs, leading by 222 runs. This is exactly what I wanted from our captain's team, and I hope Kartik steps up tomorrow, builds a big lead and finally gives Rajasthan their first win of this season.
Prashant Veer Ranji Trophy Round 4 Day 2: 0/53 vs Baroda
A new face in our Ranji report! After coming back from the CK Nayudu Trophy, Prashant Veer played his first Ranji Trophy match of the season for Uttar Pradesh against Baroda, and he bowled 12 overs for 53 runs without a wicket in the first innings.
It was not the wicket-taking return we hoped for, but Baroda were bowled out for 355 and Uttar Pradesh ended day 2 in good command at 196/0 in 55 overs. Both openers are in the 90s, with Madhav Kaushik on 90 and Adarsh Singh on 96, and they trail by 159 runs.
Aman Khan Ranji Trophy Round 4 Day 2: 14 vs Jammu and Kashmir
There is not much to say here, I am afraid. Aman resumed on 9 not out, but was out for 14, as Puducherry were bundled out for 385.
Jammu and Kashmir then ended day 2 in good command at 149/0 in 50.3 overs, with a 100-plus opening partnership, still trailing by 236 runs. Well, now all I can do is hope for that one big, long innings from Aman in the second innings, to end league phase 1 on a good note after not having much to show for the fans.
Kuldip Yadav, Shreyas Gopal and Sarfaraz Khan: a quiet day in the field
Three of our boys were not in action today. Kuldip Yadav is yet to bat for Mizoram, who are on 366/3 in 101 overs and lead by 81 runs after Arunachal Pradesh's 285, so he will be waiting for his turn with the bat after his 4/44 on day 1.
Shreyas Gopal is also yet to bat, as Karnataka are in total control at 496/5 in 117 overs, leading by 361 runs after bowling Assam out for 135. And Sarfaraz Khan was in the field, as Mumbai were bowled out for 396 and Railways ended day 2 on 116/2 in 35 overs, trailing by 280 runs.
CSK Players Not Playing in Ranji Trophy Round 4
- Ayush Mhatre is still out for Mumbai with a Grade 4 hamstring tear.
- Ruturaj Gaikwad is not playing for Maharashtra, as he is with the Indian team for the ODI series in New Zealand, and he has been named in both ODI squads.
- Mukesh Choudhary (Maharashtra) and Anshul Kamboj (Haryana) are with India A in New Zealand.
- Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube are with the Indian team on the New Zealand tour.
