Ayush Mhatre: the bad news
Mumbai beat Chandigarh by an innings and 155 runs, but it comes with a big blow. Vice-captain Mhatre has been diagnosed with a Grade 4 tear on his right hamstring. He will be out for four to six weeks and will miss at least the next three games. The hamstring issue he picked up during the IPL was still not fully recovered. After making 48 off 82 on day 1, he felt discomfort on day 2 and stayed off the field, and on day 3 he again did not come out to field as a caution. It is a big blow for Mumbai, and for CSK fans too. Here is the tracker entry. Also, as Mumbai won by an innings, Sarfaraz Khan did not get another turn with the bat after his 1 off 6 on day 1.
Urvil Patel: an outstanding start
Finally, some good news with the bat. Urvil made an outstanding start to his Ranji Trophy season with a quickfire 85 off 67 balls, with 4 fours and 7 sixes, as Gujarat took an important lead over Odisha. He was 63 off 56 at lunch, when Gujarat had gone past Odisha's 324 and led by 14. After lunch, he unfortunately departed when he could have gone for a ton, but chose to go for a big six. Still, a very good innings. See the tracker entry.
Anshul Kamboj: a tight spell
After his 4/56 in the first innings, Kamboj added 11 runs with the bat as Haryana were bowled out for 296. Then he came back with a tight spell of 8 overs for 18 runs and 2 wickets in the second innings, as Himachal Pradesh were bowled out for 119. That is 6 wickets in the match so far. His tracker entry is here.
Mukesh Choudhary: a decent start
Mukesh finished with 1 wicket for 32 runs in 13 overs as Services were bowled out for 227. He had bowled 6 overs for just 10 runs, without a wicket, on day 2. A decent start to the Ranji season, though we want to see more wickets. Here is his tracker entry.
Kartik Sharma: a good fight
After a bad start on day 1, Kartik did much better. He came in with Rajasthan in trouble at 31/4 and stayed unbeaten on 30 off 52 balls, with 4 fours and a six, putting on a 50-run partnership with Mahipal Lomror. Rajasthan finished the day on 81/4, with a lead of 170 runs. It helped his team stabilise and build as big a lead as possible. Here is the tracker entry.
Aman Hakim Khan: could not stand up
Not a good day for Aman. Puducherry were looking stable at 175/3 when there was a sudden fall of wickets, and he was out for 1 off 7 balls at 200/5, leaving the team in crisis. They went further down to 215/6. You can see the tracker entry.
One good news: Ramakrishna Ghosh is getting better
After the bad news on Mhatre, here is one good piece of news. Ramakrishna Ghosh is getting better and is already practising at the MCA, and he has put up an Instagram story of his bowling practice. He was not named in Maharashtra's team for the opening round, but he should be in contention for the next one. See the tracker entry.
I will add every update on the Super Kings Player Tracker as it comes. Which player are you watching most in the next round? Let me know in the comments.
